Trigger Hangers, School me

My friend brought me a Defiance Rebel action to barrel for him. It has 3 trigger hangers with numbers on them .0025 .0125 .0075. What do the numbers mean and how do you know which one to use. He also brought me a Trigger Tech Diamond trigger.
Thanks
Tarey

Every trigger is a little different. Manufacturing tolerances can result in too short of a firing pin travel, or in some cases, too long. The different trigger hangers allow you to move the trigger back or forward as needed For optimum performance.

i have always gone by Kelbly’s rule. You need at least .230 firing pin travel at a static pressure of around 23 pounds.

To check your static spring pressure, all you need is a bathroom scale and a small wood block. Place the block on the scale and record the weight. Take your firing pin assy and hold it verticle on the block, applying downward pressure against the shroud until you feel the spring give. Watch the scale as you do this. You will be surprised how accurate a reading you can ascertain after a few tries.

Through the years, Benchrest Shooters have strived to get that bolt to open easy and close easy in the quest to shoot faster while not disturbing the rifle so much. The action manufacturers know this, and many furnish actions with ridiculously light firing pin pressures.

The new owner will brag about how smooth it is while he shoots .350 aggs.

Yep, its a tight line act trying to get actions smooth enough to please a shooter and also have sufficient energy. Its really easy to tune or design an action to run really smooth with one finger if you dont care how they shoot. Some of the PRS actions have gone down that road.
The numbers on those hangers are how much the triggers position is moved. On a defiance action you can keep the firing pin fall about .240 with out cock on close.
