Trigger and ignition reference material

Could y'all please point me to the best available books regarding triggers and ignition system. I guess these would be gunsmithing books, but I want them as base knowledge for firearm design. I am most interested in long guns, but handguns also. Lots of diagrams, section views, and pictures from a great variety of guns would be ideal.
Thanks,
Ed

You might start with Harold Vaughn's book as well as Bill Hambly-Clark's book. Both are getting hard to find and a little pricey, but they are great books.

Butch,
Thanks. On your advice I just ordered the Hambley-Clark book. I will watch and hope for a little better price on the other.

Ed,
Every article is in botg English (EN) a,nd French (FR)

Just scroll to find. Usually, the EN) one is over the FR) one.

BTW, I think my rough technical English is better than Google's..LOL

Target actions and triggers . I'll check to see if that's the correct title . It's the only one out of all listed that compare .

Butch, the book came in, it is pretty cool and well worth the 40 bucks.

Gary, is that maybe "Benchrest actions and Triggers" by Ottenson? I see that for 150, and Ottenson has a couple others that I may pick up for a bit less. "The Bolt Action Rifle Design Analysis Vol 1&2," are on cd rom for a reasonable price.

Robert, thanks for straightening me out on the blog. I am really enjoying the articles, particularly on the bellville washers and the flex bedding. It got me fired up looking into other spring options on falling block concept that I have been batting around for a while, wave springs, machined springs, and what not. I modeled up a few machined springs and ran analysis on them. Certainly potential there, though maybe not enough to justify the cost of getting the edm'ed.

Thanks to all of you for the guidance.

Ed,

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it and found it instructive.

There has been so many progresses on this sybject since those books were writen that they can only have a consultative role.

There is actually a student at Trinitad School of gunsmithing who is working to adapt the Belleville system for the Rem 700. He is a member of the forum.

I do not think the machined springs would ever replace coil springs for several reasons :

Limited compression capacity imposing long springs.

Weight : with their two plain ends, they result in more weight.

Due to the fact they are made of rolled or drawn bar stock or tube, the metal grain orientation is across the spires, while it is longitudinal with drawn wire of conventional coil springs, who also have a much better ratio free height/compressed height. This limit their compression capacity.

Sinus or wave washers does not have sufficuent specifications in the required dimension.

This thread looks promising .
