Well phooey! Went out this morning w/my youngest son for a try at rockchucks at the invite of a friendly farmer... This morning though was cool, overcast and breezy - the chucks didn't come out to play at all. Our area of operations is in Central Washington, we have a small young orchard to protect, below a large, rock-covered slope. Found several dens while scouting this morning...
Farmer friend invited us to try again in a few weeks when it warms up. He's looking forward to having us thin the herd a bit!
We were well armed and equipped. My 14 year old son had his trusty 6mm Rem 700, and also "borrowed" his big brother's .223 Bushmaster Varminter. I had the ever-faithful .308 along. The truck was littered with binoculars, a rangefinder, bipods, shooting pads, boxes of ammo etc... Didn't matter since we didn't find any furry targets.
From the size and number of the dens we found though - I suspect the shooting will be fast and furious in a few weeks!
