Transport Options for Setting Distant Targets

At the range the other day there was a range member who I know very well who has to drive out and set up his targets and check his targets. This is early in the mornings so it's not crowded and at 6:00 in the morning those who are willing to freeze their backsides off pretty much know each other so no big deal.

When shooting on our ridge tops at 1000 yds or more we do use atv's since walking back and forth gets old pretty quick and simply because its faster. I have even seen a golf cart used to get around. So what do the older members of your range use to get around?

I use my P.U. to set up or change my targets. It is very difficult somedays to walk back and forth. I shoot the range that has a steel deer at 400 plus yards. No other targets are on this range, it does have benches, 3 walls and a roof. I have a PVC base and 2x2 wood target support I can set at any range with my Leica range finder. I usually shoot late in the day when there are fewer shooters. No one has ever objected, no range officer so we are self supervised, politeness counts. Driving out and backing up to the side of the shack is speedier than walking. My target support will hold a number of targets that don't need to be changed frequently, but sometimes those .17 holes are difficult to see, even using a 15-60X B&L spotting scope. Good weather coming real soon and I have a new CZ 457 American in 17HMR.

I always thought there was a bunch of "mean" bikers here!

D. Coots I built the same thing about that time but used a K model sporty to do so since it was a basket case that was laying around in the way.
