TPS rings question?

I have a set of TPS scope rings in 30MM, steel. These rings are mounting a nightforce scope. I followed the directions mounting them and noticed the scope has shifted in the rings very slightly. I also had this problem with a one inch Nikon scope and TPS rings? I was wondering if anyone could give me the heads up one these rings in terms any tricks I might be missing. I normally thought mounting a scope is a straight forward thing to do.

I like look and heft of the TPS rings but I had a 30mm Meopta that would not stop moving.

You can try rosin powder,pine tar pitch) just a light dusting on the inside of the rings. It will not mar the rings or tube. And, I've seen some put a lining of scotch tape inside to cushion and lock the scope in place.

Are you sure they are on correctly? The index marks are all aligned?

TPS are made so the left side,has the nut) gets tightened but you can still spin the scope to align it vertically. Then the right gets torqued and I torque all the bolts then as well.

I have never had a scope shift in any of my TPS rings. If they are set up and torqued correctly, I'd call TPS Monday and talk to them about it. You might have got a hinky set.

Given what tolerance stack will do to installed ring alignment, I think that advertising how true rings are can be ascribed to the lack of education of consumers as to the need to lap and/or bed rings as a part of an optimal scope mounting process. I also get a grin when I see all of the heavy duty scope mounting hardware is usually attached to the receiver with 4 #6 screws.,chain....weakest link...)If your rings are making full contact, and snugged up properly, the scope will not move. TPS provides a specific technique in their instructions to ensure the scope won't "roll" as you're torquing them to spec. This helps for reticle alignment. However, if your scope is moving fore and/or aft, because you don't specify how the scope is "shifting", then your rings caps aren't being tightened adequately.

As to suggesting that the problem is TPS rings, have you ever mounted a scope in other rings and not had such a problem? If not, then user error is almost certainly the culprit, friend.
