Tough day

Texas Solo

Ever had one of those range days when you just can't hit s**t?
I just switched to a McMillan stock on my F Class 308. Figured I might need some scope work, so I went to 300yds.
First 2 shots were side by side, 3" low.
I made a 1 moa adjustment and they went 3" high. ????
I began thinking something was loose, but did not find anything.
As I kept going, I eventually got the group centered. This took 20 rds.
To confirm, I put up a new target and shot 5 rds. Pic below.
Only thing I can figure is that it was just me having a bad day.20240123_162112.jpg

I can usually blame myself when that happens. Looks like you're good to go. Practice repeatability exercises.

If one shoots enough, they will eventually have one of those days at the range or on a hunt. I have had my fair share.

I have gotten fairly good at calling shots and assessing my mental state or lack thereof and can usually tell when I am just simply not in the "zone". Continuing to shoot just compounds the problem. Sometimes, if a take a break by walking around the club grounds and re-set everything I can work through it.

However, I must say the final group of yours is quite impressive, at least to me. ;)

It appears that it took awhile for the erector tube to settle down in the scope. Is it a Leupold?
I have a bunch of cheap scopes on my air rifles. When I make adjustments I beat on the turrets with my pocket knife. Seems to help sometimes.

Many scopes in the test took a while to settle in and lost zero with a very small drop test. Yes, it is a small sample and not 100% scientific but you get the idea when you see how many scopes move;
