With my turned opinion about Ford was with a 1999 Taurus with 3L DOHC engine that was the absolute worst car I’ve ever owned. 2000 miles off warranty and the right front strut coil spring broke while driving at 75 MPH. The car almost killed me if hadn’t been that I attended Skip Baber’s race car driving school twice and did three seasons of cart racing. And get this, Ford did not want to fix it and the dealership I bought it from wanted to charge me $3000 for the repair. I did it myself replacing both front right and left struts and coil springs for less then $600. Second. The alternator crapped out three times. Dumb assed Ford engineers located the alternator at the bottom back right side of the engine so it always got splashed with water from rain or here in the Detroit area of Michigan where they dump tons of salt on the roads during winter which corrodes the electronics and bering. Because of its location, it was an unbelievably difficult to replace. There is still a blue cloud of profanity hanging over the spot I did that first alternator replacement. I had to remove the engine intake plenum to replace the spark plugs on the back bank of the transverse mounted engine. The stater relay, and starter motor had to be replaced. One time while I was going up north for deer hunting with a lot of stuff in the trunk and I made a fast hard left hand turn and one of the hard shell rifle case hit the emergency fuel shut off relay located in the trunk and disabled the car. That took me about an half hour to figure out that problem which thankfully for the Internet to provide a answer. I my opinion Ford, GM, and Chrysler all produce crap for cars. The only good new car I ever had was a 1995 Dodge Neon with a five speed manual which I stupidly traded in on that POS Taurus.I went through the same dilemma. I didn't want another Ford, so I bought a GMC to avoid that dirty feeling of driving a Chevy.
Opps. Thread drift. My bad.
