torque wrenches

i'm really into this pastime now. don't usually remove actions from stock after my gunsmith builds gun, but thinking about buying above so i can do this as well as be sure of the in-lbs i'm hand tightening scope ring screws etc. don't want to spend 'too much"....don't ask how much spent on last project but is really shoots. as always, thanks in advance.

Ipreddick: I picked up a used Snap-On 200 Ft. Lb. torque wrench from a retired auto mechanic, had it checked for accuracy (right on), and use it for my switch-barrels, torqueing to 65 Ft. lb. The Snap-on cost me $20.

For the scope ring screws and base mount screws I'm using the Borka tool for inch pounds.

Both work fine.

IP, I bought a KD tools (made in USA) torsion type inch/pound wrench from Amazon for around $26 shipped. Certainly not in the same catagory as the Borka , but if you are looking for a cheapie that works fairly well to tie you over until you recover from your build... you can always throw it in your range bag when you move up later.

Interesting timing. I ordered a Wiha 28506 10-50 in-lb driver today, along with some bits. I bought it for the same purpose as you describe. The less expensive tools didn't look like what I wanted, and having bought a Wiha hand tool before and been impressed, it seemed like a good choice. The driver was about $75 from Amazon. Obviously I can't give a review, but it's probably worth a look.

Take a look at "Borka". Excellent quality and they make two versions, a driver type and a field "lever" type. The driver type has served me well for many years. Eric in DL

You need a inch pound one not foot pounds for scope rings and action screws. I have one from Brownells and it's good as any.......jim
