Tooley offset stocks

Would the redirection of recoil from straight to axial with the offset stock work the same with a prone rifle as it does with a benched rifle?I am sorry if my technical verb-age is not quite correct.

Someone with more experience may chime in, but I would think there aren't too many prone shooters that shoot a big .30 that might benefit from that type of stock. I am thinking strictly in the sense of competition,.308, 30-06 being the typical caliber of prone .30cal shooting).
It might also be tough to hold a 3-4" stock in the palm of your hand.

personally i dont think it would do much...someone correct me if im wrong but i believe the offset "dogtrack" stocks are to help fight torque when shooting free recoil for high recoil guns. one of my friend shoots a goofy prone stock its a right handed/left eyed stock. even though he's a righty/righty he likes the fact that he can keep his shoulders and head squared, and somehow he shoots it great, guess everyone has a preference :comp:

Jpatnode,

You're right.

There isn't any redirection of recoil; just a negation of the torque caused by the bullet engaging the rifling.

Well, is there a redirection?
Seems to me that there would be some torque converted to vertical. Just look at it. What will it do with the same energy?

Personally, I'd rather have a gun spin 360deg in my hands from torque, than lift from 64ths to 32nds due to a stock offset.

Mikecr- thanks for that; my mistake.

Yes, there would be a redirection, but the vertical force should be small enough that the weight of the rifle counteracts it. The larger the offset, the smaller the vertical force, which is why Tooley's doesn't just have a 3" forend.
