Too Heavy Barrel

I had a prone rifle built last year and now find the rifle is too heavy. I'd like to lighten the heavy varmint Kreiger barrel to save some weight. Obviously shortening it is an easy answer but I like the extra sight radius it has at 30+ inches. Can recontouring or fluting the barrel affect accuracy? Who might I send it to to accomplish this? Thanks.

Steve

Contact Krieger about machining to another, lighter contour. Some years ago they had a straight blank in stock and contoured it for me no charge. Its a cut rifle barrel so changing the contour SHOULDN'T affect it but talk to them for an authoritative answer.

Fluting it would be the most common aproach. You could just get another barrel too. Then you can switch them around for your needs as they change.

Last I checked, Krieger charges approx $75 to recontour a straight ( no taper )barrel. It might be less in your situation. Call them
