Tony Boyer's Book...

It is the best available ever. I would cheerfully have paid a grand for this book when I started shooting HBR and short range BR many years ago.
Mr B has every thing laid out in simple chapters. I kept saying "wow" and "I never knew that..." over and over as I read it. Mailman brought it about 9am, and I was up until nearly 2am reading slowly.

I read it and Mike Ratigan's book each year.
Great off season study.

My story I've told before about my first shooting lesson with Tony.
Wife and I drove to Mickey Coleman's place for lessons with Tony. Not much wind condition at Mickeys that day so we worked at 200yds. First thing Tony did was to put a chair in front of the bench to the right of my bench. He said that if it was OK, he would observe me while I shot a group. I shot my group with Tony watching me and nothing else. When I went down and pulled my target, Tony had another target that he marked where he said my bullets hit the target. It really wasn't that good of a group and Tony had charted it perfectly just watching my bag handling. I was a bag squeezer at the time. I said, "Tony, how did you know that my first shot was high"? He said I put a small amount of thumb pressure on my grip. Well, how about the one high and to the left? He said thumb pressure and my hand was touching the butt stock and so on. Incredible that he could watch me only and tell how my groups will form. I remember when he told me why he went from being a bag squeezer to a Farley. He said he shot most of a winter looking for a problem he was having. He found his arthritis was not allowing him to squeeze the bag properly. He is very single minded in his pursuit of winning rifle matches.

Glenn newick’s book is a good one too. Tonys book is great. Ratigans book has a lot of good info in it if he would have left out the world competition stuff.

While I never shot competitive rifle or read Tony's book I can relate to a book that can make a difference in your shooting.

For some 30 years I shot competitive "bulls eye" pistol. These were the days before the internet. For me the book that made a big difference in my performance was the US Army Marksmanship Unit, "Pistol Marksmanship Guide."

I concur with you about Ratigans book. IMHO, he padded the book to make it more of a value for the $$$. He did NOT need to do so.
Glenns book is thinner, but chock full of advice and tips based on his shooting. Just the good stuff

There's room for all three in my bookcase. We have enough winter here to allow a reread every year.

Both are good. Both have what I would say is some questionable reasoning, but that doesn't detract from the practical value that they both have tons of, and that comes from guys who clearly know how to shoot small groups.

Tony Boyer has written one book!
