Today was my First 1k F class

ok so today was my first ever f class shoot and at 1k to boot. I had a lot of fun and learned a good deal about how wind will kick your a$$.
GO SHOOT ONE SOON
I used a $10 bipod and a 4-14 Nikon prostaff scope in 243 win and to be honest I believe a fellow could turn in a respectable performance with just those so stop thinking you don't have enough scope, gun or gear Go have fun
I shot a 172 1x my first relay then the wind picked up and fishtailed and I shot a 135-0x and then a 145-1x on the 3rd relay I concluded I couldn't focus on the bull and try and keep up with the wind so I just concentrated on breaking good shots at the bull. My target ended up with 2 groups of 6-7's at 3 and 9 o'clock so I learned you CANNOT forget the wind I had fun, I learned, I recommend trying it. Also I like electronic targets until they don't read a shot that felt good or one shows up well away from where I think it broke you can't argue or double check a target but it is nice to see your hits almost instantly

Welcome to F-Class. I've introduced a number of buddies to the sport. 1000 yards can be fun, but I've found that progress is faster if most early matches are at 300-600 yards. Things aren't as equipment intensive or as wind sensitive, and you can learn more quickly how to improve.

Most shooters can be in the 180s reliably in a short time at 600 yards and under with modest equipment and skills. Usually, it doesn't take more than a couple grand and a half dozen matches to get into the 190s reliably.

Once shooters are into 190s reliably at 600, their fundamentals and wind reading skills have matured to start to make sense out of what is happening at 1000 yards and improve on their wind reading skills, which is the biggest part of improving at 1000 yards once a shooter is above 190 reliably at 600.

He obviously doesn't shoot at Sacramento or Palomino :D

Nah, most of the matches I attend are in the SE - the I-10 and I-20 corridors from Houston to the Atlantic, sometimes venturing as far N as TN and NC on the eastern side. Mornings tend to be still, with lots of high scores posted the first match of the day. Usually the wind picks up to 7-10 mph by the third match which is nice for starting to develop wind reading skills at 600 yards.

Of course, we have some windy days too, just fewer of them than some areas of the country.

Good for you sticking in there! You can actually learn a lot at a match like that. Check the wind, hold dead zero and break your shot. Don't rush, do your follow through then check the wind again. When the target comes up correlate what you saw wind wise with your score. Won't take long and you will be able to call your shot. Once you can call your shots reliably transition to holdoff's.

Sacramento is a great place to learn to shoot F-Class. Just be prepared to scratch your head often ;)
That must be why I have that bald spot on the side of my head. :D
I'll be at the LR clinic. Are you gong to be one of the instructors?
