Today Is The Longest Day

My Dad made the beach head landing and all of the five major battles in Europe. God Bless all of those you have fought for freedom.

my very first platoon sargent was a ranger. When he was the ripe old age of 17 years, he went up the rope ladders in the first wave at Normandy. Talk about a fast way to sever the umbellical cord! Howard did four or five combat jumps in Europe alone! His CIB was a max award (wreath and three stars I think), but could have had at least four stars. The combat hash marks on his sleeve went almost went up to his elbow. But of all the awards he had, he was most proud of his Pathfinder's tab and his Glider Patch.
