To "K"or not?

Since the Hornet is rimmed, what actions can run this case? Can a 700 action or Savage 12 be re-barreled and operate without any bolt modifications?

CZ 527, Sako M78, Anschutz, and any single shot like Ruger No.1 or No.3 to name a few. The M700 would be considered (by most) to be too large an action for such a small cartridge. You'd also need a new bolt for the rimmed small case.

There are MUCH better options for a Hornet or derivative.

Does the k option help the hornet brass live? I chose the 221 fireball. To me it's a much better option.
Tim I would say that’s a yes.I love the 221 in my XP’s and rifles both, especially since you can get all the neat brass for them. The smaller Hornet has its place and is pure fun, nothing wrong with a Fireball though, just ask Rick in Oregon:)
Matt

Well Matt, personally I like to have both. Each has their place in the 'rat scheme of things'. I can spend an entire day afield with either (and have.....seen it myself!).

I don't shoot much paper, much preferring hair targets, but the last time I had my Low Wall K-Hornet out to check POI, it reminded me that it's a wicked rat rifle. No wonder chucks fear it.

One look at a standard Hornet case and it begs to be "K'd".

Well, my new Ruger 77 got "K-ed" today. Waiting on a new trigger spring then a range trip.

Excellent! I can about guarantee you'll be happier with it K'd. One thing for sure, your brass will last MUCH longer now without stretching because of the original silly case design.

Post some targets when you get her all tweaked.
