22 K-Hornet Die TO BE MADE

After checking w/ Redding and Wilson neither make a K-Hornet seater die. IF there is a gunsmith W/22-K-Hornet reamer I could buy a blank seater and have it reamed to 22-K-Hornet . ANYONE??????? HELP!!!!

What I'm looking for is a response from a smith WITH the K-Hornet reamer so I can send them a Forester/Redding 22 Hornet seater OR a blank Wilson seater and make an "inline" seater . I'm just not generally a fan of RCBS and want to help reduce run out in the loaded round .

Then ask this question down in the gunsmithing forum - it is the bottom forum, below the classifieds.

The issue as I understand it is that there are sooo many different variations of the K-Hornet as suggested I would have the Gunsmith that chambered the rifle use his reamer to make a die.

Good Luck

I rented the reamer from a fellow on line here AND with the GREAT mind that I've developed don't remember who he was !! Murphy strikes again !!! Maybe sending some fired cases would help .

"The issue as I understand it... "

You have been misled. The Kilbourn Hornet is a very well defined case - dies are available for it, which would NOT be possible if there were "sooo many different variations... " of it.

I'm going to leave this post up only a few more days and then remove it . After talking to a well known ,respected gunsmith this morning because I can't get the reamer that was used originally used and because the reamer was put on an extension and reamed on the action AND lastly the cost it just AIN'I worth making a quality piece for what's very probably an "adequate" chamber . It's hard to make a "silk purse out of possibly a sows ear" .

Beg to differ--The Reamer that is used by CPC who is well known for His Ruger work is NOT a Standard Reamer it is a Kustom Grind Furnished by JGS being tighter tolerance in the base/several areas.

So then, you cannot load the "CPC" without special dies??? Redding and RCBS dies will not reload cases from a "CPC" chamber??

If it cannot be reloaded with K-Hornet dies from standard makers, it is not a Kilbourn Hornet.

when I built my K-hornet (with a PTG reamer) the factory loaded hornet ammo that I had would not chamber. I called PTG and they said there was two different common dimensions of the K-hornet. they send my the larger size (by about .003 in the neck) reamer and then the ammo would chamber. I use Hornady #546214 custom 22k-hornet and redding type s bushing dies #71362 --- I don't have a reamer for making the die, but thought I would share this info in case it helps

YOU can argue till the cows come home !!! What I was looking for was an inline seater OR a way to modify a sleeved seater into K-Hornet .It can be done but at a high cost AND since I don't have the reamer or know who I rented it from I'd end up with an expensive "possibility" . The gunsmith left the barrel on the action an reamed it with an extension so looking back on it it's not "indicated" in . Why go thru the expense of a precision die on a "compromised" chamber ?

Contact Neil Jones if you have four fired cases you can send he will make a micro seater for you to exact dimensions. He does an excellent job, not cheap. He will even make a bump die for you to perfect dimensions. His contact info is: 814-763-2769.

Interesting reading. I've been using a Redding 22 K-Hornet Competition Seater now for about 15 years. It appears Redding DID indeed produce this item at one time.

My smith called me and told me a fellow had ordered it and never came to pick it up, and if I wanted it, $30 would make it mine. Needless to say, it's been on a shelf in my gun room ever since (score!).

So, they're out there; mine can't be the only one! ;)
