Tipping and pointing bullets?

the wonderful and i assume extreme time consuming research done by Litz is all with sammi chambers and 24-26' bbl......it gives you some guidelines, but, i will assume if shooting F class 98% have custom reamers and 28-32" bbl....so unfortunately the only way to know is to spend lots of time and $$ of our own to get our own results with these "custom" set ups and i dont have the time to do test like he does, so i use it as guidance or reference.....unless i can say i can read the wind perfectly, none of this pointing/annealing probably matters as much as wind reading
Pointed bullets, if done right, drift way less then you think. Matt

This seems to be a rather misinformed statement. A shooter's wind reading skills do not generally improve in quantum leaps. Rather, most shooters work very long and hard to improve their wind reading skills. Further, bullets, whether pointed or not, don't "know" whether the barrel is 24" or 30", or whether it has a SAAMI-throated chamber. Pointing requires that you have a pointing die with the appropriate caliber sleeve...nothing more. You can begin pointing usable bullets almost immediately. There is no requirement for large amounts of time and money, merely the patience to follow some very simple instructions. Within the relatively steady window of a typical shooter's wind reading skills, pointed bullets represent a small, but consistent, increase in bullet BC that can translate immediately to better scores on the target.
