That's a tough question to answer. Neither are game bullets. I use match bullets to hunt with as much as actual hunting type bullets. I think they perform about the same on game. The tipped bullet will enter the impact sight deeper before opening up but it will open as dramatically at the HPBT does once it opens. Hollow points tend to open a bit faster due to the design.Does the tipped match king perform better as a hunting bullet than the original HPBT?
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't asking about large game (maybe I should have mentioned that), just varmints or maybe predators, but to me, it appears that having a polymer tip it would help open it up quicker...That's a tough question to answer. I've experienced the opposite but with deer more so. I've shot ground hogs close and very far with both as well and it seems the hollow points open faster as well. Again it's my experience and it was with 6.5 bullets in 140 for both designs.Don't get me wrong, I wasn't asking about large game (maybe I should have mentioned that), just varmints or maybe predators, but to me, it appears that having a polymer tip it would help open it up quicker...
Thanks, I would have bet that it would be the opposite...... I was looking at the new 6.5 130 Gr TMK. Seems like a nice match bullet between the 123 class and the 140 class. I was hoping they would open up faster, oh well.I've experienced the opposite but with deer more so. I never got explosive results at any range but they exit about the size of a silver dollar on ground hog size critters. Stops them immediately.Bob,
I may try some of these on rockchucks this year from my 6.5 x 47L. If they are bomb like I will post the results. Here's to flying body parts. Lol.
