Tip for Chargemaster extension tubes

Tip for those that are using David Moores RCBS Chargemaster extension tubes.

The tubes really help with overthrows, but they make it a PITA to get the last kernels of powder out of the tube.

Putting a chamfer on the inside edge of the tube solved the problem for me.

That makes sense. It would probably work even better with more of a taper on it...maybe pick up a VLD reamer.

I agree Tod! I haven't had an overthrow since I put it on my Chargemaster. But you are so right about getting the last few kernels out. It is a huge PITA! Great idea, thanks! 8)

Never heard of this product till now. I did recently put about 1.5" of McDonald's drinking straw in mine. Cut jagged points about 1/8" into the tip. Works like a charm throwing Varget this past week. Had two charges out of 70 go over by 0.1. But that was likely table movement as my 2 year old son was watching.

It looks like those extension tubes just slip in and out of the powder measure discharge tube. Are they difficult to remove?
I built one from aluminum stock that has a tapered input and threads into the discharge tube. If the type of powder makes it difficult to empty the powder measure the extension tube just turns out with a couple of twists.

My memory wants to say 23 tpi but my bench notes tell me it was 22 tpi. I'll see if I can go over sometime this next week and see the fellow I made it for so I can confirm that if you'd like.

Good idea. I've done this on a few where guys have requested it. I just pull mine out to clear the tube and re-insert it. Glad you guys like the inserts.

An inch or two of a straw from mcdonalds works perfect... free too... been running that for years and reset the gear ratio program so it meters differently..

I mic'd the McDonald's straw. It's the same as the Carl's Jr. straw.
Have to say I admire your imagination in finding another use for something that's generally taken for granted. I haven't tired the straw yet; but I will. I just can't resist the temptation to make something on my little lathe.
