Timney trigger on a 5R ( new info please read ) help needed

OK I am in a new section of the woods so please be nice.First off my son bought this rifel from a member and loves the rifel. Now from what I can see it's a 1 1/2-4lbs trigger with the safety.( looking at a pic )The trigger fells great BUT when the rifel is standing up on end ( but pad ) it will not lock the firing pin. When the rifel is laying down it will lock every time.

So I ask is this the nature of the trigger or is something wrong. He didn't get any kind of papper work for the trigger so no clue to adjusting it or idea to whats going on.Can some one hlp me out to whats going on or just say yep thats the way the trigger works.

thanks,John

OK after a few post from you guys and calling Timney they say its the nature of the trigger ( Timney said ).BUT as others and I feel its BS and shouldn't act this way.So I ask you guys for help so that I can put this trigger in working order or to just do away with it.I feel like and idiot not knowing any better but I have never had a reason to buy a trigger for I like a set Remington trigger to 2 1/2 LBS.( for all of my shooting )Again I need your ideas or info so that I can fix or replace the trigger.

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

That most certainly is not the way a trigger should react..
If you can provide a photo of the trigger it would help figure this out..
It sounds like maybe you'll just need to tweak the settings a bit to make it stop...

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

Preacher thanks for posting.I wasn't sure but thought it wasn't right.I'll try and get a pic up soon as of now its raining cats and dogs like its never rained before.( the rifel is in my reloading room )

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

Preacher is right on.Just to add to it,many people just install them and might not know how to adjust them from the get go.It is the most important part to adjust correctly as it can lead to someone getting seriously injured or killed. So please call timney or go to their site for proper instructions to do it right.

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

yes,I know thats why I posted about it.I knew right then something was wrong.I thank both of you for posting.I'll look at their web site ASAP so that can adjust it or talk to them one on one.

thing is I didn't put the trigger on the rife it came with it.Me I like the old style trigger and I can set them to what I like in a trigger.Timney never owned one till now and it was free with the buy of the rifel the way I llok at it.

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

Ok after calling Timney they said its the nature of the trigger. So now I feel a lot better about the trigger.Just don't need to try and chamber a loaded round while holding the rifel upright.

So to those who didn't know now you do.I guess we all learn something don't we.I thank those who posted I know how much saftey come first. This was the reason for posting and asking about the trigger.Just seems odd it works like it does but now we know.

Re: Timney trigger on a 5R

Johnboy.
You were right to question the operation of this trigger, I'm calling BS on the information you recieved from Timney, ask them to put it in writing their trigger doesn't engage in the vertical position and is designed that way, all triggers should work in any position. Every rifle I have seen that had this issue would also fire when the butt was tapped against a hard surface. This is a safety issue and should be corrected ASAP.
Have a nice day.

Again I thank ya'll for posting and having a concern for my problem.I too feel just as you guys do about the trigger.I am now in the process of trying to get it fixed or to just replace it.If anyone can help please do so for i do not want a miss fire or any one getting hurt.

I will trade for a stock Remington trigger that will work for me.( the rifel came with a x-mark pro )So if there is anyone who will trade just PM me and we can get something going.Or if anyone who can help out just PM me to what I can do.

I thank ya for reading and posting but really need your help.......John
