Time to get out of Dodge!

Sad to hear your situation, and that you are leaving a state I thought I'd love to live in. I'm in much the same situation here in NewYork, the state that only cares about one city. I grew up here, suffered through the economic dark days, and bought property where I thought I'd retire. Then the ahole governor decided he was going to make NY "his" state and unleashed his demented gun laws and a host of endless BS legislation. Between the nanny laws, taxes, and blatant government corruption I've decided we need to go soon. Chased out of my home by a demonic, psychotic, twisted Democrat. Ain't life grand?

If you move to a state to get away fromyour state, leave your states politics andidentity behind. Adopt the state you’re going to. People wonder why Colorado isstarting to suck? Because people escaped and brought their same identities, politics, and management ideas with them. They just turn their new home into what theywere trying to escape.

This could have not have been stated any better. The decline of America. The only question is by the time Americans are fed up and ready for our next civil war , will we have already disarmed ourselves into mere sheep ?

I live on the property I bought when I was 19, built my house at 26. I am now 48, tired of the deadbeat neighbors, corrupt law enforcement, and liberal Colorado.
I have been dreaming of Idaho or Montana or Wyoming for quite some time. Wyoming has the most favorable income tax, not sure how the totals stack up for the 3 states. Property taxes? Sales taxes? etc...?
I desperately want a property that I can build an airstrip and hangar, or one that accesses an airstrip. I prefer mountains nearby and trees on the property. Remote and off grid is a big plus, no neighbors for miles would be just fine.
Anything from the minimum to put in a 1000' strip to a several hundred acres is in my range.

Anyone have know of a property or area that I should look at?
If you are OK with cold winters - Idaho. head north. plenty of room to stretch out. be prepared to drive, tho...very low RE taxes.
view from property just behind my cabin. flying in would be pretty neat, gotta say. "fun" final approach I'd bet :)

The last thing I am going to do is leave my politics and identity behind. If my desire was to become a liberal and and change who I am, I may as well stay in Colorado.

True...my original statement was more geared toward the libs trying to escape stupid laws, higher taxes, and their “social norms”. They move to a new place and bring all that crap with them. If you think about it, a conservative does the opposite. When they move they mind their own business.

Exactly to the point .
All these nut jobs pushing thier personal beliefs onto otters is just bullshit. You want to be gay , go ahead and be gay just don't push it on me. The gay movement types can wear and show all the pro gay type clothing and banners and what not they so choose. If I wore a shirt and put bumper stickers on stuff that said "I love p_!_y" or something like that all hell would break loose.
Same goes for the antigun not jobs you don't want to own a firearm or exercise your rights then dont. Just try and take mine away.
As the socialist movement spreads we will all see a more rapid decline in what we know as as America. Hopefully it is stopped before it is too late.
More and more business are now posting no firearms signs in my hometown. The disease is spreading rapidly.

With all its problems and ills I still love living in New York City, crawling home for any of the 6 restaurants on my tree lined block for 1840s Brown Stones. 30 movie theaters within a short walk and all the other local features. PA is only 90 miles away and that is where my next Primary Residence (at least for legal purposes will be). Then pretty much the best of both worlds.

Bob
Different strokes for different folks.

I think I will take this view off my front porch over NYC any day of the week.

worth a look: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/22/...&nl=new-york-today&nlid=6084645920190123&te=1

from the NYT article:

“Only New York City flatly prohibits its residents from removing their lawfully purchased and duly registered handguns from the city limits, even to transport them (unloaded, and locked up) to second homes at which they are constitutionally entitled to possess them, or to out-of-city shooting ranges or competitions at which they are constitutionally entitled to hone their safe and effective use,” the challengers’ brief said.

Very restrictive 2A environment there in NYC. PA has a great supply of public state run shooting ranges. Pretty awesome.

I’m getting ready to move bact to Montana. I retired at the beginning of the year and will be going back after 30 years. I wonder if there is a conservative group that will help with relocation expenses so my wife and I can offset a couple of those liberal votes.

That's just great, until the next Revolution... There is a long tradition of juntas in those countries. Chile is less volatile than some, but still not particularly stable. When the Revolution comes around, the first target will be the Yankee with the "estate". You will be Ted Turner to those people. Either the mob loots and burns you out, or the new "government of the people" nationalizes your property.

Yeah. but with the "progressives"/"social democrats" gaining ground, it could happen here too. Beyond that, I don't get the sense that Chile is very gun "friendly".

You left out the other 8 million yayhoos competing for those restaruants and movie theaters.

Tree lined streets? How about trees with no streets?

Alaska. Too cold and wild for most. I've been thinking about trying to find a way up there...

You may find that you need to leave your conservative ways behind though. It's pretty libertarian up there.

......and they have restrictive gun laws. You get 2. I’m not even considering moving there. It’s just that I looked at a 100 acre parcel in SW Colorado and they wanted a million bucks for it!:(

Dale,

Actually you would be surprised as to how many gun owners there are on my block in Manhattan. There is an indoor range on 20th Street, just 8 blocks away and it is busy all the time. There is a Trap Club on Staten Island and many of those members are also members at the club I belong to in East Hampton. There are Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun ranges all over Long Island many visited by the New York City gun owners that keep guns in the city but shot them outside the city and if you go upstate there are probably percentage wise as many gun owners as in other gun friendly states.

I have had concealed carry permits in New York since 1971. The other day I walked into the local sheriffs office in the county I have my primary residence in, slapped down $40.00 and walked out with 8 pistol purchase documents. No one batted an eye. A few hours later I showed up with 8 new pistols that within 20 minutes were all listed on my new reprinted permits. Yes, New York's Safe act has many issues, but other states are close by even for those that work in New York.

BTW, When are we meeting up at Williamsport to kill some Clay Birds at 1,000 yards?

Bob
