Time for new barrel?

Hi There, I have a Sako Finnbear in .270 that I bought new over 30 years ago, first rifle). It sat for about 10 years and now I can't get it to shoot like it used to. I had it pillar bedded which helped a little. The smith noted some throat erosion at the time. When measuring for case overall length, I see that from saami coal 3.30, my freebore is about .110. My question is: Would setting the barrel back be advised or just go for a new barrel? I don't really like the idea of putting an aftermarket barrel on it but I could get over it.

Thanks for any advice. Stu

I guess if you don't want to re-barrel for nostalgic reasons, then you could put it back in the cabinet for another ten years...of course if you prefer to shoot, then re-barrel it. I wouldn't spend any money on a 30 year old barrel that might shoot when your done.

Wild,
If the bore is in good shape and the problem is only in the chamber or throat, eccentric.pitted, etc) and you want to keep the original barrel, have the whole chamber bored out on center and a sleeve, insert) put in in its place. Then rechamber the insert, sleeve)to the desired chamber. You can also change to another cartridge by doing this, with restrictions of course. This will cost you about the same as a new barrel and the work, if done by a competant, cannot be identified as being anything done to it at all. It's a great saver for saving a piece that's up there in price, like Schuetzen/drilling etc. More .02 LOL
