Tikka vs Sako Trigger

Infrequent Shooter

Gold $$ Contributor
Q: I have read that Tikka trigger on T3 series is very good and can be improved with aftermarket pieces. A Sako AV, the older models from the 80s, can the trigger be made as good as the Tikka? From what I understand, the Sako is very good hunting trigger and can be reduced o 2-3 pounds or so. There is the two stage target trigger for the short AI action, but that will not fit in the AV action. Asking for purposes of custom rifle build. Thanks in advance. Pls chime in w any and all thoughts. Has anyone used the Bix Andy trigger on Sako, I think it is about a 500 dollar item.

I'd say yes the trigger can be made as good as a tikka. They are all pretty similar

I know for sure the L491actions (which were in a time between the A1 / AV and the 75 series) the triggers are interchangeable so you might find that the AV is also the same.

491, 591 and 691 triggers the same as AI-AV?
No Sako dropped the #4 trigger in the last year of the AV production & switched to what was called the "Tikka" trigger. As the 91 series shared most aspects of the A series I would assume it used the Tikka trigger as well, but I can't confirm that. Although I have never tried it, I'm guessing the Tikka trigger & the #4 could be interchangeable.

the a series sako triggers on the a series sakos will not interchange with the 91 series sakos. they mount totally differant. be aware there were a few a series made during the transition that came with the tikka trigger. those had serial numbers starting with 800.

thank you for info!

Short answer is no (depending on how far you want to "improver"), with just a spring change you can get a Tikka trigger below 1lb without to much trouble, on my Sako's (A series, 75s and 85s) I had to have the triggers worked on by a GS and change the springs and most of them wont go below 1lb safely. In hunting rifles 2lb is fine for me but I really prefer less then 1lb triggers when I want to shoot smaller groups and longer range Varmint and/or longer range hunting .

Bix trigger is a worthy upgrade but they are only available for the newer 75 series and up, I wish there was as competition trigger available for the older L and A series
