Tikka T3 Lite Owners

I just purchased a T3 Lite and noticed the barrel is not free floated. How does the rifle shoot with the barrel making contact with the stock. Did you have to open up the barrel channel to get good groups. Thanks for your input.

It will always shoot better bedded and floated but you ought to try it first because they are the best shooting guns there is out of the box

They are suppose to be free floated from the factory. When you say the barrel is making contact with stock exactly where did you detect this? There's a pressure point forward the recoil lug that should not be removed. The reminder of the barrel length should NOT be touching the stock.

However like the other guys said shoot it first before you make any modifications.

I'll share my experience with you. My 243 T3 lite barrel was touching the side of the stock from the end of the stock for a length of about 3 inches on the left side. I was almost certain that this would cause accuracy problems but I shot it as is first before making any changes. As expected the best groups I could obtain were in the 1.5 inch range with tailored reloads.

I carefully removed the stock material on the side that was touching so the barrel was not touching the stock. The groups tightened to under .75" and with some more load develop I was in the 1/2" range.

One other item, if you're shooting a heavier recoiling caliber the mounts that came with the rifle may not be secure enough causing the scope to move on recoil. My friend had this happen with a 308 and replaced the factory mounts with Talley one piece mounts.

here's a typical 600 yard, 3 shot group (the thin barrel is only good for 3 shots) from my .308 T3 lite after re-stocking, in the plastic stock it wouldn't do this

So before you restocked it, did it shoot better or worse? What is the max height there between impacts?

It'll shoot straight out of the box. For a hunting rifle, you probably won't have to do anything to it. Put in a chassis, get a bigger barrel if you need to string fire, and it will haul the mail.

I just measured my finger :) and that equates to about 2" of vertical at 600, before I put it in a chassis it was almost twice that
