Tikka t3 hunter in 243

Hey guys, has anyone tried one of the tikka t3 hunters in 243? I'm on the fence on getting one in either 243 or 222 with the sale there running at eurooptics. I love sakos, but for the price, thought one may be a nice little carry varmint rifle.

I've got a T3 Lite in 243. Excellent hunting rifle for the money. Very smooth action. Nice trigger that is easily adjusted. Not fond of the rubber maid stock, but you can't have everything.

It turned me on to the Tikka action. I've had a semi-custom built on one and will have another built on my trusty 243's action.

Yep I have had one for 6 years years. Shoots federal , Winchester , Remington 100 gr soft points 7/8 groups at 100 yards. Once in awhile the Winchester 1/2 inch groups. Bolt feels like it is running on ball bearings. Just wish it was a 24 inch barrel , I think I could get it to 1000 yards no problem. Marty's

Tikka rifles are one of the best values out there. If you don't like the plastic stock buy the wood version. Both the .243 and the .222 are great calibers, depends what your intentions are as far as making a choice between the two.

243w is nice and if you shoot factory ammo this would be the better choice.

If you handload, the 222 is the better cartridge. Easier to execute and follow through quality shots, spot your own hits (or misses :D), easy to find superb accuracy and much longer barrel life to boot.

I do reload, and could reload for either. I'm really leaning toward the 222 simply due to the accuracy reputation sako has with that caliber.

While I'm a big fan of the 243 as a dual purpose rifle, for a sole purpose varmint rifle you will find nothing lacking in the 222 out to 250 yards. It was my first sole purpose varmint rifle and I shot a ton of ghogs with it.

I have a T3 Lite Tikka in 243 with a synthetic stock. While I'm not a fan of these stocks either (except for the high end McMillians' or Bell & Carlson's) the Tikka stock is much more rigid than other factory synthetic stocks I've handled. I have no issues with mine.
