Tikka Sporter

I bought a T3 Sporter in 6.5x55 and loved it so much I bought another one in .223. Here is a pic of my GF with the 6.5x55 in the hunting blind.

The 6.5 is extremely accurate. Here is a pic of the first trip to the range with several test loads of H4831SC loaded .5 grains apart with a Sierra 142 and Lapua brass. The 47.5 load is even more accurate now that the brass has been fireformed.

I shot this group at 460 yards from a very wobbly plastic table. The orange is 3". I can guarantee that the hi shot was me and the wide right shot was prolly me also as I was just hard holding (as best I could on the wobbly rest) and not paying attention to the wind.

I have developed hunting loads with the 140 Amax and 48.5 H4831SC and the 123 Amax and 51.0 H4831SC. They both shoot to same zero at 100 yards and are as accurate as the 142 Sierra. The trigger is awesome. It can easily be adjusted to about 1 lbs., but I left mine at 2 lbs for winter use with gloves.

I loved this rifle so much I got a .223 with short threaded barrel for use with a silencer. I had to have the threads re-cut to 1/2x28 but no big deal. I have only had it to the range twice and am closing in on some loads. Best load so far is 77 Sierra and 24.6 Varget in Lapua brass. Only bummer is the long throat. Magazine length rounds are about .045 behind rifling. The 6.5 has a long mag so no problems there.

I got everything from Jason at Euro Optic. Thanks Jason!!

Just got back from the range with both the .223 and the 6.5x55. Here is a pic of the .223 with a can

Here are three 5 shot groups at 100 Yards and 2 single shots at the little numbers. You can see by adding the can the rifle is more accurate, it must dampen the barrel.

Here is a 5 shot and a 4 shot group from the 6.5x55. The first group was the first 5 out of the gun. I made a slight correction and fired the second group(mistakenly marked as 5 shots but only 4), one of them got away from me. The top hole is a .30 from another rifle.

edited to add - just realized the last group with the 6.5 was only 4 shots, I only brought 9 rounds to the range.

Thanks Diesel, you've made up my mind. I have an original Master Sporter in .223 and it is just excellent. Now I'll have to sell it to get the new one!!!

Most inspiring, I collect Swedish Mausers and shoot them in vintage military silhouette they are real nice shooters. I have been considering a modern economical 1000yd gun in that caliber for varmint silhouette but have not seen a lot of actual groups to warrant going with the cartridge. Thank you

And if you want to further follow the example, I'll make you a good deal on a scope like the one pictured, which appears to be a Hensoldt (Zeiss). I have one, LNIB, 4-16x56 FFP with NH-1 reticle, and I'll sell it for a few hundred less than a brand-new one would cost you. Tikka and Hensoldt look like a marriage made in heaven. :)
