Tikka receiver torque....

Just bought a new Tikka , love it so far.... One of the things I tune on my rifles is receiver or action torque... I have seen great improvements in finding what a rifle likes.... The one thing read was people saying their book stated 65 inch pounds on receiver screws... That's way way to much on a plastic stock and have read in numerous post of people trying and screwing up stocks...

Just looked it up in my new book and it states UP TO 62 inch pounds on metal trigger guards and UP TO 44 inch pounds on plastic trigger guards... Just fyi.... Before I start tuning on this gun I have read some recommendations right here on what people have already found out by tuning that the plastic stock guns like and I would appreciate it so much if anyone would post what they have found to be good front and rear torque values... Ammo for testing is crazy expensive , so it might help save a box...

Tikka T3X in 6.5 CM is what I have just in case it helps , I finally drank the Kool aid on the 6.5 and am liking it so far , a little less recoil than my other hunting rifles...

I'm always learning and also interested in receiver screw torque, but do not have T3X. So I thought I would get smart and downloaded the owner manual. It refers to figure 5. I found figure 1, 2, 3, 4 but no five!!

So, cannot offer anything specific. On a Model 700 with plastic bottom metal I have tightened the front up to 55 inch pounds and the rear up to 50 inch pounds without any harm to the plastic. On that rifle I settled for 50 front and 45 rear. That doesn't help you much, other than some plastic can be quite robust.

Very nice thank you , still open if anybody else wants to chime in... Just didn't want to crack a brand new gun stock either... I have a Ruger American rimfire that really came to life with the right action torque.... I would have to look but I think it was like 25 rear 35 front ...

I think that you will find that it will shoot pretty much the same from about 30-65 inch pounds.

That being said, I use 45 inch-pounds on my polymer bottom metal and 65 inch pounds on my metal ones (I am up to 7 Tikkas now).

I’d love to help but I’ve always tossed the plastic and made some wood for them. I have one CTR that I picked up cheap, sitting in my safe. I haven’t played with it yet. I thought you were reloading for that gun?
I am going to reload for it , I already have everything just waiting on some more practice with the rimfire trainer.... Shooting shotgun sports the last three years or so has really hurt my pistol and rifle skills... Nothing a little training won't fix so I am not wasting ammo on center fire just yet... While I am using the training rifle I have been setting up the Tikka , a new front rest and rear bag , setting up the dies etc for starting reloading for it.... Also right now I have started shooting a little factory ammo across a crono to get a baseline and see what grain it's gonna like... Hopefully 130-140 is what I am wanting leaning towards the 129gr SST for a hunting bullet to start with then maybe some bergers and so on....

Another thing hurting me or at least putting the brakes on is it's been raining like crazy for the last couple of weeks.... In three days out at the gun range they got 15 inches another guy I know got 18... I went today to try the new rest setup and shoot some skeet to stay fresh and it was still muddy and water standing... Kinda been trapped in the house for a couple of weeks... The stock on the rifle needs to come off one day to lighten up the trigger a little , it's just a touch heavy even a little heavy it's superb for a factory trigger... I didn't want to screw anything up by doing that....

I have a Tikka CTR in 6.5. I love that rifle and find it to be very accurate. I haven't reloaded for it - maybe one day. My particular rifle likes 129-130 grain bullets much more than 140's. One I suggest you try is the Hornady 129 grain American Whitetail. At the ranges I shoot, it turned out to be as much or more accurate than much more expensive brands. It leaves the 20" barrel at about 2600 fps. It's a great plinking/practice round.
