Tikka rebarreling

Hi to all,
I have 6 month old Tikka T3 synthetic stainless varmint in 223 and would like to re barrel it with a faster twist but I have heard that the barrel is glued into the action and cannot be replaced. Apparently Browning use this method of attaching barrels on some of their rifles but I am unable to find out any info on the Tikka. Is this true? Can my Tikka be re barreled? Thanks for any help.
Regards,
badger1

I have a T3 Varmint arriving in .25-06 in a few weeks and was a bit concerned when I read your question. After asking around apparently they can be rebarrelled. I also vaguely remember reading a magazine article with a custom rifle built on a rebarrelled T3 action.
This doesn't necessarily prove anything but I hope to hell they can be rebarrelled!!!

You might want to try and contact Mac Tilton at MT Guns. He is one of the sponsors of this site.

I believe he knows how to rebarrel a Tikka.

Call Mo Defina @ MCS in Brookfield, CT 203-775-1013. He has lots of experience rebarreling Tikka's. The 3 most accurate rifles that I have ever owned were rebarrelled Tikka's done by MO. He shoots the Tikka's in HP competition also and makes many accessories for them. Tell him Chris Jordan gave you his #. I won't get anything out of it, but you may get a faster turnaround time.

Unfortunately I'm in Australia so getting in contact with the people you mentioned is a bit hard for me unless I email them. I'll probably be asleep when they're at work;)
Will have a search for Mac Tilton's email address. Thanks.

There should be a link to the MT Guns website in the sponsors area. Mac's e-mail should be on that website somewhere.

I know this is an old thread now but YES, Tikka T3's can be rebarreled. Found out from a barrel manufacturer and fitter last Friday. He's done a couple of them.

Matt.

Before you rebarrel and get yourself into a tactical or varmint rig...I would really consider getting a M 595 or M 695 action to build off of. The Tikka t3's are not as nice to work with.

Give Mac Tilton over at MT guns a call and he can run it through with you!

Before spending money talk it over with an expert!

G`DAy Matt yes they can be re-barreled they are pretty well a generic Sako i have 5 Sako`s Two of which have been re-barreled L461 models and have an L579 which i am thinking of rechambering into 6BRX or even 6 or 6.5X47 No rush on that still trying to get my 30Br shooting small then move it out to 500m.

This is a very old thread but I need the help of someone that knows. A friend wants to have his T3 converted from a .308 to a .300 win mag. I have no problem doing a rebarrel and altering the bolt face to take the magnum but my problem is,whats the story with the extractor, does that need changing as it looks as though it wont allow the magnum diametre in. Also is there a particular way to check the headspace,I thought I read somewhere that headspacing a .300 was done differently or measured differently. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I personally own a T-3 and an M55 that have been re-barreled. The only issues are the fact that the actions have a rounded taper at the barrel end and thus you would only want a blank that is 1.2' in diameter. The other issue is the recoil lug being embedded in the stock, not fitting between the action and barrel. It means bedding and changing stocks is an issue.

I am eye-balling a bolt right now and I am not sure about opening the bolt face. The extractor cut on the bolt is pretty deep and would need a spacer for a magnum diameter extractor, but Hmmm., the amount of meat on there... I can't tell you if it could be done or not.

The bolt can be opened up alright as Ive had that much confirmed but the extractor will need to be changed. Ive never done this before. Id love to know how the extractor comes out. I havent had time yet to go at it but Im sure someone here has done it before.

I am a BIG fan of the Tikka T3 rifles....for the money the accuracy of the little rifle is outstanding, see pic below of my T3 Lite in .243 with 16 1/2' barrel and five, 5 shot groups shot from the prone with bi pod and rear bag).

There are more options as far as stock, etc., for the T3 that many are not aware of. Mannners is now inletting for the T3. See thread from SnipersHide here: http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1207267#Post1207267

And Pete Lincoln from Germany...yes he ships to the USA...makes all sorts of goodies for the T3. He is soon to be releasing bottem metal and mags for the T3. Info can be seen here: http://www.webshop.roedale.de/

Take care,Stan
