Tikka in 6.5x55

I have 2 tikkas in 6.5x55. One is a T3 Hunter and the other is a Tikka master SPorter.

Master sporter was probally one of the more accurate factory rifles ever made.

The T3's are cheaper versions of the old 595 and 695 actions. A good hunting rifle, but as good a base for a solid target type rifle as the older versions.

RHINOUT!

I'm the guy JB1000BR is referring to. I have a T3 in 6.5 x 55 and it shoots extremely well although I bought it used and suspect the barrel was not properly broken in as it is a horrific fouler. Have only shot Federal 140 grain factory stuff, extremely lethargic loads @ around 2300 FPS over my Oehler). Suspect 129 SST's at @ 3000 or so will be a dandy Whitetail load.

What Rhino said.
the 595's and the 695's are great for building/buying and having built great accurate rifles.

I have 3 595's and a 695 6.5x55 master sporter- great rifles.

Hi, olsingleshot. I have four rifles in 6,5X55 SM, two of them being the model 96,long barrel), one the model 38,"short" barrel), and one the new Brno,or Ceska)they make with old Mauser '98 actions and new barrels and stocks. All shoot great with the Sierra HPBT 142 grs in front of 39 grs of Tubal 5000. To give just an example, I have five sub-moa targets @100 meters open sights, you see, in Spain we have added this class to bench-rest shooting). The 120 grs Sierra propelled by 39,5 grs of the same powder is just a bit less accurate than the 142, but still plenty good. All this is to show how fond I am of the cartridge.

Last fall I killed a goat with the 120 grs Nosler Ballistic Tip, 39 grs of the same powder, and Norma case from about 120 meters uphill. It fell on its tracks and never moved. Extremely accurate barrel and load, making for a deadly combination. The bullet exited through the off shoulder, but I have shot that load into a line of 5 liter water jugs and found nothing but shrapnel in the third and last one at 100 meters.

I have never had a Tikka, but I own two Sakos in different calibers and I believe anything my Brno can do, the Tikka can duplicate.

Good shots.

The New Tikka Varmint Stainless Synthetics are suposed to be the great.
You can order them with a O/S bolt knob and factory rail mount.
Fully floated from factory and with a nice crisp trigger.

If I didn't have so many $$ already invested in the earlier 595's and 695's I'd seriously consider one of these.

They weight less than other factory HB too. so you get the ADV of a HB in not much heavier than a sporter weight.

Mag changes are quicker than feeding them through the top on other rifles as well.
I have 3 mags for mine- a bit expensive but worth it.

I use 120 Remington Core-lokt for all my hunting with the 6.5x55- why when there are so many other choices- because it works.
I have shot everything from Rats to 180-200 lb hogs with it and not many have run off- and not very far when they have.
I load up near 3000 FPS with these 120's and this load is IMNHO not safe for the EX-Mil actions but is fine with the Modern strong action and Euro brass.
Euro brass is correctly sized in the Web area per the CIP cartridge drawing.

120 Core Lokt sounds wise. I'll try it. If it is as good as its .358 sibling I handload in my .35 Whelen, it will be hard to beat.

JM.

I have one in a Sako and its my favorite rifle so far. I like 129 gr bullets great for picking off coyotes. I have also tried heavier bullets for Deer hunting and got a good one last fall. Note though never use your gun for hunting after you have cleaned the barrel make sure to foul it first.. Ah well live and learn.

What weight do you use for deer? Have you tried Sierra SBTs and Nosler Partitions? And I agree absolutely about fouling before hunting or just do any serious shooting. But before doing so remember to remove the protective oil you left in the barrel after cleaning.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I think I will give Tikka a try. I have a Winchester 70FW in 6.5x55 that is a great shooter but it is or will be a collector so I need another. Well that seems like a good reason !!!!!!
