Tikka 695 Project

So, I have a Tikka M695 in 7mm rem mag. Is it safe to try to find a standard 473 bolt face in long action and use it in this action? I'm looking to build a 284 win. I really like the smoothness of the tikka action, but don't want to take any risks of wearing it. Would it would be more cost effective to try to get what I can for the 7mm rem mag and start from scratch? Any advise would be appreciated

Would suggest putting your post in the main message board or in the big stuff section if you have a question....right now you are in the classifieds for sale.

That being said, parts for the 595/695 series Tikka rifles may be hard to come by. They do hold their value though. Perhaps sell and pick up a Tikka T3 with the bolt face you are looking for. I would suggest a long action caliber so as to allow plenty of room to seat a bullet long in the .284.

Sure seems like I should know you CK........Glad you came over and I'm sure you will learn a lot here....great bunch! and watercams idea is a good one also.:):):)

That's been part of my thoughts also, but have heard that the T3's aren't as smooth as the 595 0r 695. Do you know if this is true? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

The bolt for the M595/M695 is modular by design so you really only need the bolt body, if you can find one. I ran a cursory check and only found one body at Brownells ($411.00) but it is a magnum also.

An alternative is to use the process often applied to Rem. M700 bolts to change their bolt faces. We sleeve the bolt face and finish turn it to the right diameter with a chamfer for ejection. The extractor cut is made, everything polished and tested.

Probably the best solution is to get over the smoothness of the Tikka M695 and buy another rifle of equal value and quality. There are other action makers out there who produce some of the smoothest operating actions available today. Or you can simply buy another M695 with the proper bolt face and have it re-barreled for the cartridge of your choice. There are two listed on Gunbroker.com

Regards.

Just out of curiosity what do you get to change the bolt face?
