tikka 595 action, how good is it?

I think it is one of the best and smoothest actions out there. Years ago I saw some at a gun store and wondered about them for about a year...then I read an article that in American Rifleman that said they were actually producing better accuracy ( not a lot but a little) than the Sakos. I and my son promptly went out and bought 2 22-250's and a 7 Rem mag and later a .243 Deluxe that my daughter has and has not as yet been fired. They have not disappointed at all as far as the action goes...only on the 595 22 250's they require being jumped a long ways as it is impossible to touch the rifling. I think the only drawback here in the States is that they are metric but in Europe, my understanding is that they are sought after and used much by top shooters. Hope this helps.

From a UK shooter.

A Tikka 595 in .223 was my first full-bore rifle that I bought about 15 years ago. A nice wooden stocked sporting rifle. One of few actions available in left bolt left port configuration. Had a really light and smooth bolt lift and as others have reported a really crisp adjustable trigger.

I sold it 3 years ago because I was not using it much for competition shooting, also because it only had a 5-round magazine and I wanted a 10-round magazine rifle. Also I wanted the funds. Now there are conversions available for 10-round magazines using AICS .223 mags I would buy another if I found a good one (in left hand). I think a 595 is a great action.

The 595 was a great action, but the 590 is even better if you want to hang a heavy barrel from it. As the receiver is less opened and more rigid.
I believe it was the best modern action ever made in the 20th century.
It has a fast lock time, usually the threads are cut pretty well although some may need a touch up. Magazines for it can be hard and expensive to find . A standard 308 mag will house a 300 wsm case surprisingly well.

If you find one buy it.
McMillan can inlet a lot of their stocks for it as well as richard microfit .
