Tika 223 rem Continental Varmit rifle

I have some questions about a rifle I just purchased. I ran a bore brush and patches through the barrel expecting to get an 8" twist rate but got a 12" twist. Is this as designed by Tikka or do I have a bum rifle. The barrel is 23.875" in length. The receiver is marked with M595 before the serial # on the left side.

I plan to shoot ground hogs etc. with it at longer ranges but with this twist I don't think it will shoot. My gut reaction is to return the rifle and get my money back! This must have been a special request rifle!?

What do you know about this rifle if anything?? Do you agree about returning the rifle.

If its wasn't exactly what I wanted, and thought it was at the time of purchase) I would return it. No sense in keeping something you don't want or something that you cant get full utility from when you paid good money for it. Take that sucker back and get the rifle you thought you were buying.

I don't own one myself but a good shooting friend of mine does. form what I have heard and understand the older models you could get an 8 twist witch is what my buddy has. but the new ones are a 12 witch he was told when looking to buy a second for his son and that an 8 twist was no longer offered. his dose have an 8 stamped on the barrel. I would most defiantly take it back and find out the real scoop and get a rifle that fits your wants and needs.

The Tikka Continental hasn't been made for some years now. The rifle you have is based on the older 595 action, and since then they have stopped making that model and replaced it with the T3 line of action. I don't know how you would return it, or who to for that matter. Also, the 12 twist is more than enough for varmints and bullets up to 55 grains. The older models such as the 595 were never made in 8 twist from my knowledge either. If you decide you don't want to keep the rifle, there are likely individuals you could sell it to on here,me included).

I have a 595 Tikka field weight 223 SS/syn...the 12 twist in it is just fine...plenty of 50-55 gr varmint bullets to choose from..it is very accurate for the light barrel...I have the newer T3s too..the 595-695 series are better thna the new...I have spare mags if you need one...metal 3 or 6 rounders...not cheap...T3 mags will not fit...pic is recent new paint job on my 595 Tikka 223
