Tight spot lapping recommendation

.222 ND

Silver $$ Contributor
can some recommend which brand of lapping compound to remove a tight spot in a barrel that is about an inch and a half long? It is a centerfire 224 barrel. I’d also like a recommendation on grit size. Thanks

It is a new barrel. I’ve not had any luck with it either. 22-243 with a 7 twist barrel. I did try 95 grain Sierra’s a few days ago and they shot pretty good(3 shot groups under 3/4). Every thing else has been around 1 1/4”. I’ve shot at least 6 different bullets and 5 different powders. My goal was 80’s going 3350 or better. I bore scoped it and everything looks good.

It would be hard to lap a barrel thats supposed to be lapped perfectly already. The maker knows how to keep it uniform and if you lap it you own it for sure

How many rounds down the barrel? How long have you had it? What maker ? Prefit, or gunsmith fitted ? Lots of questions I know , many variables to look at.

To answer your original question. Lapping out a tight spot is tough without causing more issues. Might want to try tubbs abrasive bullets ? Kind of a shot in the dark so to speak
