TIGHT PRIMER POCKETS???

Just wanting to know i have got some federal brass for my 223 and the primer pockets seem to be very tight what could be the couse of this and what is the best way to fix it.

Are they military primers? If so, they will have a crimp on the primer pocket and that needs to be removed. check midway for a crimp remover

US military brass, current production Federal included) tends to have tight primer pockets to begin with. This is before the primer crimps are added.

The reason for tight pockets and crimped primers? So primers have less of a chance of falling out when ammo is fired in automatic weapons.

I have had problems with Primer pocket tightness regarding .223 Remington Brass: Remington Brass is POCKET TIGHT for many rounds; Hornady Brass remains tight for many rounds if slightly expensive to begin with, yet Nosler brass, while expensive, is good for ONE reload before too soft hold on primers occurs, and Lapua Brass seems oversize in all-respects, but does hold primers okay. Winchester brass seems squirrely internally and externally. These are my personal observations, so I consider Remington the BEST all-around reuseable cases for a reasonable PRICE. Remington requires sizing and trimming straight from the source, but they HOLD-UP for many reloads. Korean PMCs are difficult to prep properly, but once such is accomplished, they are okay for reloads. Brass is highly workable, while primers are NOT. If cost was not a factor, Hornady is the ONLY Brass I would buy. cliffy

What brand of primers are you using?
I have heard that some Wolf primers seem to be just a tad oversized. It may be that your primer pockets are ok, but your primers are a little large.
