Thumb hole stocks

im having so much fun here. So much to learn and so much experience here. What do y'all think about after market thumb hole stocks and are they used very often in competition shoots. I have two and at first I thought they were great, now I'm so-so on them. Opinions?

Shot several, hated every one of them. I think a thunderstick should be mostly able to be picked up and shot easily....That ridge and hole makes it a one and only way gun.

Thanks guys, that about the way I feel. It just does t seem to feel right. Tryimg to teach an old dog new tricks I guess LOL

i shoot up to 2000 rounds in a three day weekend at sage rats/squirrels. I had broken my wrist some years back and at the end of the day of shooting a standard stock, my wrist would ache pretty bad. it changes the angle just enough to give me some relief. it started with me acquiring an Remington xr 100 and I liked it. now about half of my varmint rigs have thumb hole stocks

After market Thumb Hole Stocks? To each his own. ;) I have/had about five or more of them. I've lost count over time. All from Richard's Micro-Fit and I love every one of them OR, I wouldn't have ordered them that way.
Right or left, you fit your thumb in the hole, your hand is around the grip area of the stock, you have a firm control and there's less of a chance of dropping the rig.
Most rigs are heavy enough that you would have to be real careful to pick it up at the balance point or the barrel ends up in the dirt or you loose your grip.
In my case, I'am right handed but I built a right handed thumb hole stock and fitted it with a left hand repeater action set up as a single shot.
Right hand keeps control in the thumb hole while the free left hand feeds ammo and works the bolt. No reaching across/over to work the bolt. You wern't doing anything with your left hand anyway!!:D

The BR guys don't touch the stock with anything but the trigger finger. That leaves a thumb hole stock out of the picture. I think it is very hard to shoot a TH off the bench where you are trying to be repeatable. It is impossible to grab the stock the same way every time. But, I have several. They help control recoil, they force you to grip the stock in the same spot. I think they help in the off-hand position. They are a PITA if you are using Butler Creek lens caps on the eye piece.

I never really cared for them until I tried the Manners T5. Extremely comfortable!

Like Them !!, have 9 custom rifles with them and really enjoy shooting them. Even had my F Class Masterclass done by Alex Sitman in thumb hole. Use the Richards (NOT-SO) Microfit Dual grip and Wildcat sporters on my hunting rifles. l Like these styles as they can be shot opposite handed if needed, which has saved more than a few hunts. Target guns can be tricky if you try to push the gun into position rather than relying on the front rest or joystick for fine adjustment.
