Thread Cutting and Chambering Oil

Hello all, I have been using Vipers Venom for chambering and threading and have had great luck. I was recently given two gallons of Rigid Dark threading oil. Do any of you use this, or could you give me any positive or negative comments on using it. Thanks in advance....

Tony.

I have been using dark cutting oil also, however recently found out about another product made by Rigid and decided to give it a try. It's a dark thread cutting oil as well but is specifically for Stainless steel, jury is still out on it but it seems to be working well so far.

Tap Magic Pro Tap is good stuff, too. Although, a mite more expensive than "free" dark threading oil...... If you're using a muzzle flush system a good, heavy duty water soluble oil or synthetic, designed for 'high pressure' machining, works well when mix to the manufactures directions for the application. You need a refractometer to accurately check the concentration of coolant to water. Some of that stuff is slicker than greesed owl s**t! Just don't over complicate any of this....... KISS (keep it simple stu...........)

Even better though. I just bought a couple of the spillproof cups and brushes from littlemachineshop.com to keep it handy to dab onto your cut on the lathe or mill. really makes it handy. --Jerry

For the record, I've been mixing 2 parts Mobilmet 766 with 1 part Vipers Venom and a dash of the CFS additive for chambering. I don't have a flushing system though.

Ultra Cut Pro, 10:1 with distilled water. If captured and reused, 55 gallons will last many years. It has replaced Rustlic 255R which I have used for 12 years now.

I'm cheap. Used a tall pill bottle epoxied to a piece of plate, and a 25 cent soldering brush from the hardware store!

I use 4 gal Rigid Dark threading oil and a gal of automatic transmission fluid in my flush system and have never had any issues. Chambers come out mirror finish and I hit them with some 320grit emery clothe after chambering to give them some cross hatches.

Me too. I've been cheap my whole life but I finally broke down and bought these dedicated, well designed oil cans. A bit expensive but I appreciate them every time I use them.
