Thoughts on a savage ultralite

Looking at one local to me on sale for $950. 22” proof barrel, blue printed action….

Almost too good to pass up. I haven’t had a savage in 10 years. Last was a savage 12 LRP. Action was so so, extraction was less than that, but it shot .5” groups at 300 yards.

For the price, think this is worth picking up for a hunting rifle?

For that price I would say that is a pretty good deal. Savages will never win any contests in the form, fit, or function categories but they will win a few things where it counts. Most of the time they are great shooting rifles.

I'd not count much on a factory blue printed action . I have a Savage model 12 with a PT&G bolt body that fits the action that has .003 clearance (((old bolt body was .692 and the hole in the action was .702 )))). A Rifle Basix #2 trigger and a Brux used barrel that will shoot this at 100 yds

A friend bought one in 7 PRC. He loves it. That's a good price. It's very light so it needs a quality muzzle brake lest it ends up killing on both ends. The muzzle brake he put on really tames it down.
