Thoughts about Kahles Helia L scopes

Has anybody had some experience with the Kahles Helia L scopes? I found one on a Ruger M77 MkII Target .308 that I was thinking about. In looking around, the scope looks to be worth $500-$650 according to ebay prices. I'm trying to get a feel for the price of the scope as well as the quality of it. I have heard that Kahles are supposed to be fine scopes. The Helia L line appears to be the predecessor to their current Helia C line.

Hi Gunaddict,hi all
I've never owned a Khales,I'm not rich enough, but all I know about these is that they're among the oldest riflescopes ever made in Europe, purveyor of the Austrian court for decades, they also were in the hands of the nazis after Austria was "annexed" by the Whermacht, and along Zeiss and Leitz provided scopes for the German army during WW II.Their scopes are top notch,I read that after more or less bad business in the 70s they dwindled a bit and eventually got "purchased" by Szwaroski, which accounts for the quality of Szwaroski's that I'd never heard of until that time ...I had never been aware of the outstanding quality of polish optics prior to that..Whereas the german will beat everybody hands down in that field. So,if you have a deal on a Khales, first check it thoroughly, and if it's plain and sane don't loose time and do the jump, they're equal to Zeiss, which is a lot to say.Hope it helps.

Swarovski is not a Polish company. They are Austrian, just like Kahles.

Hi Gman,hi all

Sorry for the goof Gman,I didn't know that, but since it sounded polish I thought it was;what's for sure is that they actually bought Khales, easier if they're austrian...Doesn't change the fact that Khales is a top notch company with first end products.
