Thought I Got a Good Deal...

I bought a Redding No1 scale on Ebay and thought I got a pretty good deal. Then I looked at the box...

The scale is as new, but I paid about 3x that with shipping... It is extremely accurate (tested with my calibration weights) but very sensitive since there is no damping. So far am pleased with it. Been using an RCBS 5-10 since the late 70's.

If anyone has a guess as to the age of this scale I would appreciate it! Thanks! Danny

Thank you @snert! I did not think Redding would be able to help but will sure give them a call. I even have a warranty card with a serial number (?) that said it must be returned within 10 days. I am guessing it is only a couple decades late! Danny

@ShtrRdy, so 5 to 6 decades late on mailing that warranty card…. Guess it is a little too late now…
Thanks for the response. Will call Redding tomorrow and see what they can tell me. I read on another forum the No 1 scale was introduced in 1943…. Apparently the early scales had bare brass beams and they later started satin chrome plating the beam. Since mine has a black oxide (or paint?) beam it must be a little later. Thanks again! Danny

I just spoke to Jay at Redding. I must say the customer service there is second to none! If you are listening Jay, thanks again! Jay said the No 1 scale was produced until 2003 and mine with the black aluminum beam was the last version of that scale. I was playing with it this morning, and as long as there is no air movement (HVAC) it settles out pretty quick. Not as fast as my dampened scales but I am a happy camper. Thanks for all the responses guys! Danny

My #1 had a provision for dampening. There was a small paddle suspended below the pins that extended into a small reservoir. Light oil kept in the reservoir dampened the system.
