thompsom center model .223 cal.

Is 60 grain v-max a good round for varmint shooting . The rifle has a 1:12 twist. Is this to much twist
for the round ?

Welcome aboard Papa! :)
The 12 twist should work fine with the 60V-Max/.223 combo, however the newer 53V-Max has an awesome b.c. of .290-.295
and being lighter should start out faster and considering the better bc should prove more explosive on varmints.Usually a heavier bullet has a better bc than a lighter bullet, however the Hornady engineers have done their homework with this new 53 V-max it shoots great and has a great bc along with good speed it was built with .223 shooters in mind.

Is the 60 grain v-max a boatail? If it is I would think that it is right at the end of the twist stabilization realm. If it were mine I would stick with 55 and under.
