Would you go with a 7mm Rem SAUM or a 7mm Win. SAUM? This is for 1000 yd F-Class.

From what I understand the case on the Win. version is .035 longer.

Read the 7mm info page. A lot of good info there that will answer most of your questions.

That was a tuff decision for me. I went with the 7rsaum and it is capable of winning at 1000 yards and so are other .284 diameter rounds. Spend the time researching, then make an informed decision on what will meet your needs, or just get or build whats currently winning consistently. ;D I know I'm not a lot of help. :

This is one of the hardest decisions to make "which caliber" there are just too many good ones around nowadays.

Although not directly experienced with 7mm, I have built a few and am also thinking of changing my long range Fclass gun up to a 7mm (from 6.5*284). After owning a 6.5*284 and going through quite a few barrels I have to say the barrel life is weighing heavily on my mind. Cost is one thing but more importantly it takes a lot of time to install a new barrel, run it in , develop a load and then it is a right P.I.T.A. to only have it in the sweet spot for a little while. I would guess if you have refined your choice to the RSAUM vs WSM then the RSAUM will get a very similar result downrange but give you several hundred more rounds barrel life. A big plus.
The 284 Shehane is not far behind.The guys with the straight 284 get excellent barrel life (a very big plus) and I don't think the Shehane will be far behind it. the 7mm WSM seems to get the most out but at great barrel life cost. Many good ones in between (280/280AI etc)- Ahh which way to go?????

Sailhertoo; Did you mean 7mm RSAUM and 7mm WSM? I had a 7mm RSAUM built after considerable hashing out the options. I went full circle from 7mm RSAUM, 7mm WSM, 7-300 WSM, and back to 7mm RSAUM. I don't know of a 7mm Win SAUM but would be interested in knowing if I am missing somthing. You could also do a 7mm-270 WSM. I use both the Remington 7mm RASUM and 300 RSAUM Norma brass for my 7mm RSAUM. Nosler also makes 300 RSAUM brass. I have heard that Norma discontinued the 300 RSAUM brass. I am pleased with my choice. Have fun, Mike

Thanks alot. I think I will build a 7 SAUM for my cousin and I.

The only brass I have ever shot for matches is Lapua, in 308 and 6.5-284.
If I go with the 7SAUM, is the Remy brass good to go or should I plan on necking down 300SAUM norma?

You might also consider necking down the Nosler 300RSAUM brass. It comes weight sorted in 50 piece boxes and the weight spread in a box is about half of what I've seen in a batch of 300 RSAUM Norma brass.
