thinking of ordering a Colt Walker reproduction

I already have several SSA made by Cimarron/Uberti as well as the Colt Dragoon & Colt pocket, Wells Fargo model.
It seems in ordering I have choice. Either the cap & ball or the Richards-Mason conversion. I like both t.b.h. If you were going to order one do you have a preference and why? Thanks in advance.

Aren’t most of the modern conversions chambered for 38 Special?

I would go with the black powder percussion cap in 44. After all, untill the advent of the modern magnums, these behemoths were possibly the most powerful handgun available.

A member of my Gun Club has a modern 44 Walker. With his “pet load”, that thing is a handful.

Funny, I was just shooting my Uberti Walker Colt yesterday. I installed a Kirst Konverter for .45 Colt and am very happy to be able to shoot cartridges with it. It needed a little work on the front sight, the sight needed to be higher and a little to the right. Rather than buchering the original sight I made a fat front sight that slipped over the original and is held on with epoxy.

Uberti makes quality weapons!

I have this Colt 1851 Navy replica that my wife got from her father’s estate. I don’t really know anything about it. I just take it out and wipe it down every few years. It seems to be pretty well made. I’m not even sure if it has ever been fired.

The conversion cylinder for a .44 caliber cap and ball pistol is the .45 Long Colt. Cowboy loads only if you want your pistol to stay tight. The reproductions shoot the .45 very well since both have identical bore sizes.

You have a reproduction 1851 Navy by Pietta which is a reputable brand. They do take some liberties with their reproductions. The 1851 Navy was never manufactured by Colt in .44 caliber, only .36 caliber.

I have a Ruger Old Army, If you can find one for a decent price they are hard to beat and built like a tank. Just not 1800s period type reproduction.
