Thinking about hydro-dipping

Keith Glasscock

I'm thinking about trying hydro-dipping one of my laminated stocks.

Anyone with experience?

Cautions, difficulties, or concerns?

How durable is the result?

Thanks,
Keith

It is fairly durable like good paint is and it looks super when done correctly. My best friend has had 4 rifles done that he shoots in turkey shoots. He gets a lot of compliments on the looks.

I have three done but that is on Fiberglas stocks. They look great. Is it durable? I don't know. They haven't been beaten up in the three years Since I've had them done.

I met a guy in Montana that had some hydro-dipped stocks that looked pretty nicely done. I believe he said that he used a coat or two of clear coat for durability purposes. I might be wrong though, but I think that was it.

I was gonna get a pic of one at the match that had a carbon fiber scheme with what appeared like a good amount of clear coat, very sharp looking.. A guy could actually think it was carbon..

Jay is correct as most do have them clear coated with high end automotive clear coat. If you use the cheap coating it will peel and yellow with age.

I have seen alot of people do it with good results. You can call GA Precision and ask who they are using as they have it done on some of their builds.

Built my own stock and had it hydro-dipped. These guys primed the stock and took out all the scratches that I missed, dipped the stock in the pattern I picked and finally clear coated the stock a number of times with automotive grade clear coat. You can take a beat up stock and make it perfect again. Wouldn't hesitate to do this again. (DeadeyeLG.com)

I've had 4 done by Brother Hydrographics in Rogersville TN. I have been very pleased with all of them. The price was excellent and they were all returned quickly. You can get much better than that.
