Thinking about action for custom rifle

Guys,
Whats the advise on the action to use for new custom rifle? Should be light, easy to carry good for 500 yards plus.
Dont like Rem, thinking about Dakota, any advises thoughts?

If your wanting a light custom action, then let me suggest to you the Ti action that Tom Myers makes at X-Tremeshooting. Yes it is a rem clone, but it will save weight. Extremely well made product that that you can use.

With the amount of plaing around I do I stick with the Savage actions. The reason is because I can switch not only barrels but also bolt faces so easily. If it a build and never change the action doesn`t matter, but if it is to be switched out frequently go Savage.

Give the Dakota Predator a look if you are interested in the 223 family of cartridges, but they only come as complete rifles.

Take look at the custom actions built by Bighorn Arms. I have one and it's wonderful, a real piece of art. The link is bighornarms.com

Take a look at Kelbly,s Atlas Bear action. I think are they are building rifles with these actions and have the rifles in stock for around $2400.00. Ready to ship and shoot. The action is around $850.00.

The question you are asking you can get all different answers. I have many custon actions, including some finely tuned remmy's and in my book they are all very good. I guess what I look for is what looks good to me, and also how much money I care to spend. One of my favorites is a Lawton. Very basic and simple. I also like the Nesika, and the Kelbys you cant go wrong. I am right handed though, and when I look at new actions I like to have a left port.

I run both Borden Alpine & Stiller Predator actions on my walk-around rifles, and I really like them both. The Stiller is the lighter of the two, but not by much. All the top end actions are really good! I suggest that you should take the time to call around to the different manufactures, and explain the build to them.
FYI- be prepair for a long wait, the bad economy hasn't effected the custom gun business....
