Thinking about a 7mm-300 WSM...

Anyone shooting this caliber in F-Class competition? I believe the british teams are using this cartridge with great success.

Thinking of shooting the 180 Berger VLD's in Win brass. I would be using a Krieger barrel.

Any suggestions as far as twist rate needed, powders, primers for this combo?

I have 5lbs of each RL 17, H4350 and H4831SC on hand.

9 twist bartlin 30inch.
66.5 grains of H4831sc
180 bergers moly
Fed 210 primers/win brass
=3010fps
nice load shoots moa at300yrds and holds to 1000yrds

lots of the boys here in the UK shoot H1000 with very good results, if not this. H4831SC.

After 2 seasons on a 7/300 wsm i am going to 7mm shehane i think quite a lot of the uk shooters are moveing this way due to the short barrel life of the WSM, its no joke 400/600 max rounds then she starts to open up, 800 yrds is still good on V bulls but 1000 you start to move around the 5 ring more and more

Look long and hard at the 284/or shehane this round is starting to win more and more fans in the uk.

Just my views good look with your 7mm.

PS. half the F Class league shoots in the uk have been won with the shehane or strait 284 this year. :) look up Grant taylor he has built his first shehane and he is doing great with it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I built a 6.5-08 for the longer ranges but I am not convinced that this was the way to go. I will either part it out and build a 7mm or test it more over the winter and see if it comes around.

The 284 Shehane looks interesting and I can get Lapua brass for it rather than having to use Winchester brass and have to buy twice as much at half the price to get the same number of usable cases.

I think a lot of shooters have seen the results at Bisley strongly favouring the 7WSMs and such and think they will be the ducks nuts for F class in USA and Australia. The way I see it is that at Bisley, the winds were realy bad, making peak accuraccy not so important, compared to sledge hammering the bullets into the wind. They were also shooting Bisley style,I hear that happens at Bisley??), which means you get a longer break between shots. This means you barrel doesnt heat up as much, and you cant follow the spotter as much. It also means you have more time to reposition your rifle and get over your last shot.
In most ranges where I shoot, which I would think is similar to USA, the winds arent often as bad. Combine that with not shooting Bisley style, you can get your shots off a lot more quickly. This means you can crank your rounds away fast when you get a good condition and maintain good accuraccy. Not having a realy big kicker means you can get the gun back to battery more quickly. A big barrel burner will wear out the shooter and barrel more quickly in this style of shooting.
I think this is why the 6 Dashers and such are so popular in USA and Australia for all round F class.

Hi all, correct me if I am wrong, but I thougt that you had to string shoot in the team matches. I know I did

I have shot String, Pairs and Triples and as long as you are paired with a good shooter/s you can still bird dog off the spotter just the same as if you were shooting string.

how is this such a barrel burner when the 7wsm is bigger case and holds more powder does this mean the 7wsm will have a shorter life than the 7-300wsm?

I have re-assessed my cartridge choice and am now looking at the .284 or the .284 Shehane.

Barrel life of the 7-300WSM will be about 1000-1200 rounds for competetive rounds where the .284 or Shehane should be up 2000-2500.
