I`m thinking about a looooong range .308 to shoot the 208 Amax at rock chucks and prarie dogs, what cartridge and parent case would you use?????

I like the looks of the .30-338AI Lapua, but have not setteled on anything yet....

Opinons.....

How much recoil can you take? ;D I shot them in a long throated .308 Win and a 30-06. Both loved them but the key is throating for them. ;)

I was planning on making this thing HEAVY!!!!!!!!!

I`m just shooting from a bench, so I`ll use a forklift to get it from the truck to the bench..... 8)

A 300 WSM would do the job, next bigger choice would be a 300 Norma. For going loooong if the 208 doesn't work out the 215 Hybrid certainly shines.

I shoot them I a 308 Norma mag. Not really any difference in it and a. 300 wm. Maybe a 30-378 if you really wanna make them zing! My buddy has a Lazaroni rifle. Think it's a warbird? Not possitive but it shoots them down range well too. Just way expensive

Anyone have any velocity numbers for the 208????

What cartridge are you using to get the velocities???

Phil.

I shoot 208s in my 300WSM.

If it were me:
300WSM - I did, I don't shoot it fast and it makes 1000 easy. At the moment my 260 is tuned better but the 300WSM is sub 1/2 MOA
308/26 Nosler - in progress, this expansion of the 404 Jefferies history is a natural progression. More than a WSM/WM but less than a RUM
300WM - Long proven if you are ok with belts.
300RUM - A big boomer, at the moment I have 3. Gonna sell one. With a proper brake the recoil is easily tamed.

28" barrel, medium load, all these are modeled at the same pressure of 56000 with the same seating depth that maximized case capacity
300WSM, expect ~2850fps
300WM may push that up to ~2950fps at the same pressure
308/26 Nosler, expect ~3050fps
300RUM, easilly ~3150fps

I run about 100fps shy if those numbers and have gone faster.

Of course there is:
300 Wby
30-06AI
30/338LM
30/3878Wby
300Norma
308Norma
300Dakota
300SAUM
300Pegasus

and many many more

2995-3005 fps with a 300wm using 208g BTHP Hornady's.. Retumbo @78.2g, Norma brass using Federal 215 primer.. 27" Hart barrel with a 1-10 twist. .005 off

I'm sure I could push my speed up so I believe that claim.

Yes .005 off for the A-Max works for me as well.

30 boo boo would be a excellent choice for the 200-215 grain bullets. Superb brass(8x68s Rws) that last forever.
The improved version is a step up from the Wm. But a very good beltless design.
Should run the 208's fast, stands up to pressure really well and the Only rebated rim case i know of that will take 30-50 reloading cycles.

I'm using a 28"Krieger on my 300 WSM and I get about 2835 fps using H4350. 210 SMK's are almost identical. In fact I use the same powder charge and distance off the lands for both bullets and they both go into the same little group.
Just my .02
