Think I need (want) a 204 Ruger rifle....CZ Varmint...or what?

I have a CZ 222, I love it. That little action is just cool. It was a little rough but after shooting a bit it smoothed out and it is accurate!

CZ + 204 = lots of fun

I have the 527 American in 221FB, and for a sporter weight barrel, that little rifle shoots like some of my heavy barrel varmint rigs with the Nosler 40gr Varmageddon over RL-7. Amazing accuracy, that set trigger and nice factory wood to boot. These are really understated rifles.

I really enjoy my CZ 17 HMR Varmint, funny thing is the guy tried to talk me out of it because the safety is "backwards" Im glad I didnt listen to him about that.I would say go for it,as pretty much everybody else has said:)

I have a friend that has the CZ Varmint HB in a 204R, its a chooter. I just built a 204R in a Encore with a 24'SS 1-11 twist fluted MGM barrel, Boyd stock, Bushnell 4500 6-24x40. Only have 100 rounds thru it all 40gr Vmax factory, for the brass. I have played with some 39gr SBK and H4895. still working on it. But I cant believe the performance of this round. Going in March for a three day PD choot.

I will say this for the CZ to me they feel and point just like a Pre64 Model 70. Only
think I don't like is the safe. But HELL my friend says you d, maybe don't use it anyway, Maybe some day

I have one in the varmint ,25.5"bbl . Its a killer, might take it out tonight in NV desert. The 1st round from the magazine feeds rough, but none of the other rounds feed rough ? Shoots factory very well along with my handloads. But there is a local gun shop that has a Sako 85 Varmint in .204,its sweet for a whopping $1800 bucks.

Man I would love to find a Sako for cheap:D
Kinda makes a used Cooper seem like a viable idea too,I regret selling my 204R Remington rifle to my boss years ago, been on the hunt for another one ever since.Heard lots of stories about excessive throat length in the 204R,maybe I should just get one of my 700s rebarreled with a nice reamer. It doesnt help being a procrastinator of the first order:confused:

If you're interested in a CZ 527 Varmint 204 I'm going to be selling mine. Have a few to many varmint/predator guns and this one is to nice and shoots to well to just let sit in the safe.IMG_1056.jpg

With a re-barrel, you could not only control throat and barrel length, but also twist rate. That would be important if you want to shoot the 40 grain-and-above bullets, which won't stabilize in the too-slow 1:12" that all OTC 204s (and also Coopers) come with. As much as I love my M21 Cooper, I'm limited to 39 SBK bullets, so will go with a faster rate when it comes time for a new barrel for it or my other .204 Rugers.

204 Ruger is my next caliber.

Don't do it! If you haven't shot a 20 caliber before, stay away! It is the start of an addiction where you always need just one more. I know, I'm a victim.

Before buying a 204 Ruger, it is important to decide which weight bullets you primarily intend to shoot. And for whatever reason, most manufacturers seem to go with a lot of freebore. So you may well be 0.100" or more off the lands with 32 gr bullets. I don't know what CZ uses. Factory ammo will be even worse since it all tends to be loaded to function in AR's. 2.260" max length.

But remember, I warned you.

I'd like to say just get factory 204 ruger & be done with it..BUT..If you find a deal on an old 223 CZ 527..Go the custom barrel route.1-11 twist.{Pac-Nor}..Tac or practical 20 chamber...Put it in the stock you want & be happy with that nifty set trigger....You will be a happy man..mike in ct

One of my shooting buddies shot this five shot group at 300 meters with a Savage factory .204 and 39gr Blitzkings handloads. I told him he should be ashamed of himself. :D:p

What stock is that? It looks fantastic.

Thank you. It's a Boyd's stock in what they call their Coyote Laminate. The comb was a little to low for my liking so when it was at Defensive Edge Rifles being bedded I had them put the adjustable cheek piece on. I was very happy with how it turned out.
