Think I made a big mistake getting the wylde

Since you do not know the chamber length, did you screw the barrel into the action righty tighty or lefty loosie? Too many variables to tell how my shotgun would do at 300yds :>)

Ok, Aint dead yet..lmfao..I will try to tell you the story so bare with me here..
I used the go gages to set the barrel as I have in the past..This is a 26 inch
bull barrel,7 twist,stainless..And with the wylde chamber..The barrel is floated
action screws are tight. Mounts is tight..
The box test was done on my sons rifle at 100 yards..It seems to have performed
very well..I have tried from 62 to 90 grain bullets...
Now at 100 yards it will do 1/4 inch 3 shots...At 300 which is where I need it
it will group maybe 4 to 8 inch..Not good...Checked the crown and the twist..
When I clean it,I GET NO copper at all...I think I am thru messing with it and
will get a Shilen...I had a McGowin befor which shot excellent..But shit happens.
I appreciate all your replies...

After all you have tried why not settle on the bullet you want to shoot and load up fifty rounds with a proper load you know that works and seat all the bullets 5-10 thou out of full jam. Then go to the range with your wind flags and an arbor press and start shooting two shot groups.
With each group you seat the bullet .003 deeper into the case until you get two shots touching. At this point you will start seating only .002 deeper. Now you are getting close so start shooting three shot groups. When the groups start to open you go back and shoot five shot groups. Finding your best setting is only the start. Now you have to go home and start ladder testing your powder charge. Note, once you find the right seating depth you never change it for that bullet. Just adjust your powder up and down 2 tenths of a grain until three of your groups have the same amount of vertical and the groups are as small as you can get them. This is your accuracy window. If its not to your liking pick another bullet and start over again.

I'm pretty sure the Wylde chamber is not the problem. I have an XCR 223 wylde 9T that seems to work quite nicely with 69g Fed GMM (SMK) .seem to get about 1" groups at 100 yds with an Aimpoint H2. Probably could improve with a scope, But I digress. I don't have any experience with Savage actions at this point but I have noticed with my Rem 700's that over tightening the action screws prove just as bad as not tight enough. I presume you are using some sort of a torque wrench/driver for those action screws?

I am currently giving away a 28" McGowan Remage. It shot out of two actions. The threads are so loose that it wobbles up and down nearly an inch before I tighten the barrel nut.

McGowan says it is within tolerances, and sent it back.

I wouldnt waste my time with them ever again. They are incompetent and unprofessional.

Wylde was originally developed as a match chamber for .223, not to shoot both 5.56 and .223. That was just a happy coincidence. It is a perfectly fine chamber for a bolt gun.
The wylde , was designed by Bill Wylde to allow the semi autos shoot both 556 and 223 safely with accuracy improvements in semi autos .
Again I would never use the reasoning " that it improves accuracy in semi auto , so it must be good in bolt guns " . If the op was shooting a semi auto I'd say sure great all purpose design .
Sorry for such a late reply , been busy doing hurricane clean up .

I don't understand all these comments like "My Wylde chamber loves 69 gr bullets at 600 yards" etc. What does the bullet care about chamber design? The brass case cares, sure, you need the right sizing die. We're talking subtle dimensional variations of a 223 chamber. How does one variant favor a particular bullet or twist?
