Man that is a nice one. Getting fat on some prime alfalfa huh. Great shot too!
That reminds me that I need to dig out my fish scales to start weighing chucks. They will be getting really big here in the next 6-8 weeks.

This is small dog that wants her tummy rubbed. She weighs about 12 pounds. That chuck prolly goes 20! Does it seem easier, shooting at such BIG targets?

#115!!! our weather in ne tn/sw va has been terrible...HOT, HOT! my total is way off, but i did get a few big ones. 13# 2 oz was biggest. three have been 12# + and a lot of 7-8 #. get one of those digital scales so we can see just how big those Pa pigs get. think i read an article in Varmint Hunter's mag about some pushing 20#. good shooting.

No trophy photo but I popped one at about 40 yards, offhand with my 25 cal Marauder a few days ago. Head shot and dumped him where he stood. Big fatty.
I am having a crisis. new place with 8 acres...and about 10 chucks. But i kinda like looking at them (since they a re mine) and I can't believe it! I never met a woodchuck (before) that I did not want to shoot.
Oh well, I imagine after a hard winter and anticipation I will be less affectionate in spring!
My move to a new house and a sudden illness causing my mom to be come a resident in a nursing home has taken my chuck shooting for the last month. I was doing well, then phhhttttt. Amazing how things can change in a day

Today was my day! Visited with a farmer on Wed who owned a large alfalfa field that I have been eyeing. Sit down and visit awhile and it lets the farmers know you are safe. Toured the field Wed and tagged many holes with a small piece of surveyer's orange tape. Returned on Fri and bagged 2 weighing 9# and tagged some of the ground level tunnels they use to go from the fencerow into the field. Got there today before temp reached 80° and noticed a large alfalfa field across the road, esp a small hill covered with poke berry bushes. Ghogs love digging around these bushes as the soil seems looser. I saw the tunnels but no pigs. The farmer stopped by to get a tractor so I asked who owned this field. "I do", says he and kill them all. 30 min later there's a head poking thru the grass and a monster dragging his belly enters the field. 235 yds and no wind. Put the sightron dot on his neck and sent a 55 gr Stark hollowpoints on it's way. WHHHAAACCCKKK and he stopped. 14# 4oz! Ties my personal best. A 9#10 oz ghog enters the field at one of the tapes and he is harvested. Got 1 more 9# 4oz before the temp hit 85°. I can't get my pics off my phone. Somebody is coming by this week to figure out my problem. If my problem is solved, i'll post the pics. Next week out temps are to be in the 70s so with winter approaching, they will start eating non stop.
