There's gonna be a shoot-out in Texas (400y clay match) - **FORMAT CHANGE**

Judd

The Heart of Texas Silhouette Association (HOTSA) rifle range. They are located about 25 miles south of Corsicana between Wortham and Coolidge.

When - 8/16/2015 with entry fee of $35

This will be the same format as the 400y "Texas Benchrest shooter of the year" matches. There will be only open class for this first match with a 308 cal max, no clam type side port muzzle breaks, 50 rounds at 40 clays. Sight in period to start the day and no further sight in periods rest of the match.

Come get some practice for the "Twisted Oaks SOY" upcoming match in September. Prize money will be based upon number of shooters with proceeds going to club to move range to a new location. For more information on the club go to www.HOTSA.org and for clay match information email Denny Henderson at drh15t AT aol DOT com

Attached file with directions to range below.

The HOTSA 400 yard Clay Bird Match will be on Sunday, August 16th. Direction to the range are attached. Chances are it will be very HOT that day. The firing line is in the shade and we have lots of additional covered areas for folks to stay out of the sun. However, it still will be very hot. We feel it is very important to complete the match before 1:00 p.m. due to climbing temperatures. In order to do this, we are changing from the Texas Benchrest (SOY) format to another format that will allow us to finish the match much earlier. We will shoot four rounds instead of five rounds, have an eight minute sighter period before the first round, have 10 shots at nine clays, seven of which will be mid-sized clays (90 mm) and two of which will be mini-clays (60 mm) and one sighter per round. That will make 40 rounds of shots and 36 targets, plus unlimited sighters before the first round. Tie Breakers are based on number of mini-clays hit or a one-shot shoot-off.

If you have a good portable shooting bench, bring it. If you don't have a bench, you can shoot off of someone else's bench. There will be time to move benches around between relays. Don't stay home because you don't have a bench; we will get you one. Bring your shooting stool.

We will try to get finished and on our way home before 1:00 p.m. The changes to the format should enable us to do so.

The entry fee is $35.00 (Please have cash)
Prize Money is for 1st - 3rd and is based on 30% to 40% of the entry fees and number of shooters.
For information and/or questions about the match, call Denny Henderson at 972 dash 742 dash9359 or send an email to drh15 AT aol DOT com

Re: There's gonna be a shoot-out in Texas (400y clay match)

We shot clays at 575 yards. Got to be too much work so we went to 5''round steel gongs. Nothing is more fun then watching the impact on targets. Hope you match goes well. Larry

Sounds like a great match. Its a lot of work so please support them. Just because there's not a varmint class doesn't mean you cant bring whatever you have and learn about these clay matches and have fun.

That is exactly why I'm going to try to make it, just to learn. It's not looking like my FTR 308 barrel or my 6x47L barrel are going to be here in time. So I'll just bring the 22-250.

Slight format change...there was some significant concern about it going to long and getting into the heat of the day. Still same distance just a little different format and 4 relays versus 5.

Come on out...one thing is for sure, we'll have fun!

I am looking forward to it, hopefully I can put out a couple of the fires I have going to be able to make the shoot.

Hope you make it missed...Denny sent additional information out today....same format I outlined above but the scoring will be midi's worth 1 point, first mini hit will be worth 2 points and second mini hit will be worth 3 points...total points available per round = 12.

Shooter's meeting @ 8:30...try to be there by 8 and be ready to shoot prior to the shooters meeting.

Wind flags provided by the range.

Entry fee $35, bring cash and small bills appreciated.

I didn't get the email from Denny, I am on the list for varmint benchrest but need to get added to this one also. I'm going to go shoot Friday and try to get ready. I'll have my 22-250 or short barrel 308.

How was the shoot? My 22-250 was a jam o matic the other day, and with no loads worked up for the stubby 308 barrel I couldnt make it.

Ill have to make the next one.

We had a great match with some of the best shooters in Texas. It was a real shootout till the end won by Danny Barringer. We're planning another one on October 18th. I'll send more info out in a few weeks on that match. This Saturday we're having a Benchrest Silhouette match that we shoot at one minute of angle targets from 200 to 500 meters. It's a great format and quite a challenge.

Varmint silhouette this weekend? I hadn't seen an email, hopefully this week I'll get something figured out and come down.
