There is no award for the high score with a Remington 700

That's what my friends tell me. Anyway, I was the only one to take to the line with a Rem 700 at the California Palma State Championships on Mar 7,8, 2020. So I would have been guaranteed that award.

There were a couple of rifles shooting better than mine at certain distances (800, 900 and 1000) and some rifles had higher X counts.

But at the end of the 2nd day when we added them all up, my score was highest (F-Class).

That doeant really suprise me. I got trued rem 700 actions that those rifles hammer. Customs are nice, but I think theres alot more in a good clean lock up on the lugs, and barrel work. Even more in the shooter himself.

Congrats. I sometimes have action envy with my 700's but then I met a guy a few matches back with a 700 in 30BR and he said he mostly shot prize and money matches (almost a thing of the past) and had won over $5K over the years with it.

Congrats! Well done, and with a lowly Remington 700 action no less. I hope you repeat several times this yr. That'll open the eyes of those that scoff at the thought of actually using ( or refuse to build on ) an action that most custom actions are based on anyway. Well done!

Pro or Con, for so many people, but day in and day out the Remington 700 action is one of the best one's, regardless of the bad mouthing it gets from so many EXPERTS.

Though the custom actions that I own are smoother, my two BR Remington 700 / 40X builds shoot as well. One is even just from the custom shop, though it was built by the Dakota Arms group rather than the Ilion shop and has a Krieger Barrel and Jewel Trigger to my Reamer Specs.

Never felt at a disadvantage with a Rem 700, unless it had a factory barrel.

Thanks for all the kind words. I can't say that I'm more skilled than all the other shooters but it all came together and I figured out the wind a little better than the others...except for the time I shot a 7...my target went up and down a couple of times...I laughed and said "it must be the X and the guy is having trouble reaching the X scoring spot" (It is high right). Finally it came up and it was an X. I smiled and pulled the trigger--forgetting to recheck the wind which had died. Fortunately by then I had enough lead that it didn't matter. --Jerry
